Our Story
A Legacy Built on Love, Carried Forward.
The story of ELITE YORKIES & BIEWERS begins long before the name. It begins with a family, a passion, and a commitment to raising Yorkies that are genuinely extraordinary.
The Foundation: Roman Empire Yorkies
For years, the family behind Roman Empire Yorkies built a reputation that spoke for itself. Robin Taylor — veterinarian, retired U.S. Air Force Colonel, and specialist in food safety and veterinary care — carefully developed the Elite Yorkie lines you see today. Her son, Mikael Cherry, along with grandsons Deven Cherry and Shawn Cherry, now carry that legacy forward with deep respect for the standards and vision that built it. Located in the Florida Panhandle, they raise Yorkies with an approach that is anything but ordinary: in-home, family-integrated, daily handled, and deeply loved from their very first breath. These puppies were never raised in kennels or cages. They were raised in living rooms, on laps, and in the arms of a family that understood something many breeders overlook — the first weeks of a puppy’s life shape everything that follows. The result became a generation of Yorkies known for their calm temperament, social confidence, emotional intelligence, and extraordinary ability to bond deeply with people. The foundation of these lines began decades ago with the original Biewer bloodlines brought from Germany. Every Elite Yorkie today traces back to those carefully selected companion lines — chosen not only for their rare and vivid coloration, but for their warmth in human relationship, affectionate temperament, luxurious coats, and exceptional companionship qualities.
Mr. and Mrs. Biewer became internationally renowned for developing these stunning color variations through the amplification and preservation of rare recessive genes, creating some of the most visually striking Yorkies in the world. Dr. Taylor recognized the extraordinary potential of these lines early on and began building what would become the Roman Empire Yorkies legacy — combining beauty, temperament, structure, intelligence, and deep human connection into a carefully protected breeding program that continues today. Now, that legacy is being entrusted to the next generation. Every Elite Yorkie continues to follow the same stringent protocols and uncompromising standards established over decades of experience: thoughtful pairing, health-centered breeding, early neurological and emotional development, intensive socialization, and a lifelong commitment to producing truly exceptional rare Yorkies. Families across the country trusted Roman Empire Yorkies not because of marketing, but because of results. The puppies they placed became beloved companions — in elegant homes, professional households, and in the arms of retirees who had waited years for the right dog. And today, through Elite Yorkies & Biewers, that legacy continues.
The Next Chapter: Elite Yorkies & Biewers
Dr Taylor realized her advancing age was beginning to impact performance; so, she made a decision that speaks to the depth of her commitment to her beloved dogs. She transitioned everything to her son and grandsons — along with the bloodlines, standards, relationships and the heart that made it exceptional. She remains the Program Mentor/Advisor and “Grandma” to all.
Under the name ELITE YORKIES & BIEWERS, the program continues — elevated in presentation, refined in experience, but rooted in the same values that built the original reputation. The same rare bloodlines. The same family-integrated raising approach. The same commitment to placing puppies only in homes that are truly prepared to love, protect and cherish them.
"Our name is new. Our standards are deeply rooted. Our purpose remains the same: to raise rare, beautiful, healthy, intelligent, emotionally connected companions for homes that will love them as family."
RESCUE DOGS
Rooted in Rescue
While the Elite Yorkie lines became known for their beauty, temperament, and exceptional companionship, Dr. Taylor often reminds people that her life’s work has always been rooted in rescue. Throughout her decades in veterinary medicine, emergency care, food safety, and animal advocacy, Robin Taylor witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking realities many animals face during times of crisis, abandonment, disaster, and war. Those experiences shaped not only the way she bred dogs, but the compassion-centered philosophy behind the entire legacy. Behind the scenes, Dr. Taylor and her family have dedicated countless years to helping animals in desperate need, supporting rescue organizations, assisting 501(c)(3) efforts, helping relocate and save dogs from dangerous situations, and contributing to rescue missions that reached far beyond the world of breeding alone.
From helping animals affected by life emergencies to aiding efforts involving dogs trapped in war zones and extreme hardship situations, her commitment has never been about recognition. It has been about responsibility. She believes that those entrusted with knowledge, skill, and experience in the animal world also carry a duty to protect the vulnerable. That commitment continues today. Even now, Dr. Taylor, Mikael, Deven and Shawn remain actively involved in helping save and advocate for animals that might otherwise be forgotten, offering their time, guidance, resources, and hearts to causes dedicated to giving dogs another chance at life, safety, and love. For the family behind Elite Yorkies & Biewers, breeding was never simply about producing beautiful dogs. It was always meant to be part of something larger: a lifelong devotion to the well-being, dignity, and protection of animals.
