The Rare Color That Started Our Story

The Biewer Yorkshire Terrier originated in Germany when two Yorkshire Terriers carrying a rare recessive piebald, or spotting, gene produced puppies with striking white, black, and gold markings. Their beauty was unlike the traditional Yorkie coloring most people knew, and the new color pattern quickly became admired throughout Europe. Today, these dogs are often called Biewer Yorkies, Biewer Yorkshire Terriers, or Biewer Terriers, depending on the registry or country. Whatever name is used, their distinctive coloring, bright intelligence, and companionable nature have made them beloved by families around the world.

Dr. Robin Taylor, DVM — retired USAF Colonel, veterinarian, and specialist in genetics — spent decades studying, importing, and carefully developing rare-color Yorkie bloodlines through Roman Empire Yorkies. Her work was never focused on color alone. Dr. Taylor’s goal was to develop Yorkies and Biewers with exceptional beauty supported by health, structure, temperament, intelligence, and the ability to bond deeply with their people. Today, her son, Mikael Cherry, proudly carries that legacy forward through Elite Yorkies & Biewers, continuing the same family commitment to rare beauty, responsible care, and extraordinary companionship.
