Aurora’s Story: A Yorkie Bringing Comfort to Others

I cannot say enough wonderful things about Aurora, the Yorkie I purchased from Elite Yorkies and Biewers. My intention from the very beginning was to train her to become a therapy dog once she turned one, and she has exceeded every expectation I had.

Aurora will be two years old this October 2026, and by the time she was one, she had successfully completed all of her training and passed the testing required for us to become a certified therapy dog team through Alliance of Therapy Dogs. She has now been doing therapy work for almost a year, and watching her interact with patients has been absolutely amazing.

Aurora is not only incredibly healthy, intelligent, and well-mannered, but she has an almost unbelievable ability to understand people. When she is placed on a patient’s bed or in their lap, she seems to intuitively understand what that particular person needs from her. She knows when to simply cuddle, when to stay close, and when someone needs that extra bit of comfort and companionship. It is something that is truly difficult to teach—it is simply part of who she is.

Her intelligence, temperament, health, and loving personality have made her an extraordinary therapy dog. She is calm and confident in different environments, comfortable meeting new people, and has an incredible ability to connect with those she visits. I am so proud of everything Aurora has accomplished and of the joy and comfort she brings to the people she visits.

I also want to recognize the very important role Robin Taylor and Mikael Cherry played in Aurora’s life during those first 12 weeks, before she ever came home to me. Aurora’s story is a great example of what can happen when the right temperament is carefully nurtured from the very beginning. Those first 12 weeks with you were such an important part of her development. The care, socialization, experiences, and foundation you provided during those early weeks helped give her the confidence, stability, and wonderful temperament that I was then able to continue building upon through training and socialization.

I truly believe the work you put into Aurora during those first 12 weeks played an important role in preparing her for the therapy work she would eventually go on to do. It takes the right combination of responsible breeding, early socialization, continued training, and a committed handler to create a successful therapy dog—and Aurora is a beautiful example of that.

I am incredibly grateful that I chose Elite Yorkies and Biewers and that Aurora came into my life. She has been everything I could have hoped for and so much more. I truly believe the wonderful temperament, intelligence, and health that Aurora started with gave me an exceptional foundation to build upon through training and socialization.
